ADOPTER'S FAQ

WHAT DOES THE HAMSTER COMES WITH?

All hamsters from Eldduc Hamstery comes with:

1. Adoption Contract

2. Pedigree

3. Lifetime Support with us!

You can ask any questions, spam pictures etc - we welcome them!

HOW DOES THE WAITING LIST WORKS?

As we are a small scale hamstery with typically 2 litters per calendar year, waiting time is at an average of 4 months.

If you are on the waiting list and do not want a pup from the latest litter, you are able to request to "pass" on this litter and your slot on the waiting list will move to the next litter.

WHEN CAN I BRING THE HAMSTER HOME?

Although weaned at 4 weeks old, all pups are separated according to gender and kept together till they are 6 weeks old.

During the 2 weeks, the pups began to learn social and hamstering skills from one another - which is beneficial towards their growth as a hamster as well as bonding with their humans.

Hence, our pups goes home strictly after 6 weeks old.

WHAT DOES A TAMED HAMSTER MEANS?

A hamster that is tamed is familiar with human interactions and does not bite.

Although most if not all of our hamsters are #Cuddle Muffins with us, they may or may not cuddle with you from the get go as bonding and trust have to be established.

Tamed ⇏ Cuddle

However, we are unable to give a 100% guarantee that the hamster will never bite (no breeder should give such guarantee - why?). Hamsters are animals and animals retaliate through biting for example, when they are in fear/startled.

ARE YOUR HAMSTERS TAMED?

Of course! Our hamsters all regularly handled when they are 2 weeks old, hence very familiar with human hands.

DOES THE HAMSTER NEED TO BE LEFT ALONE TO FAMILIARISE WITH THEIR NEW CAGE FOR A FEW DAYS?

No. Our hamsters are handled daily since 2 weeks old, hence do not need any isolation period for them to get used to the new environment when adopted - they can be held, cuddle and played with from the get go.

By leaving them alone for days may be detrimental to them as their taming may regress and it will not help with the bonding between you and the hamster.

Note: In regard to taming and supervision, we can only speak for hamsters from Eldduc. Please speak with your rescuers or breeders on the hamster's temperament prior leaving them to their own devices.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A BABY HAMSTER?

Baby hamsters are more jumpy and skittish, especially when they are new to the surrounding. Continuous positive reinforcement like increasing bonding time helps. However, reactivity generally tones down when they mature around 3-4 months old

For first time owners who prefers to handle mellow hamsters to begin with, do not hesitate to reach out to us as we have retirees available for adoption from time to time.
